The Environmental Impact of Large-Scale Solar Projects
Explore the often-overlooked environmental consequences of expansive solar farms, from land degradation to increased carbon footprints.
Did You Know
AVS propose to close temporarily all footpaths and bridleways across the affected site.
What they do not say is how long is temporary.
Any closure will serious affect how connecting public access is used as well as forcing more horse riders onto narrow country lanes

Land Use and Solar Industrial Sites
The Arrow Valley Solar (AVS) proposal represents an industrialisation of the rural landscape on an unprecedented scale, covering extensive areas of Warwickshire and Worcestershire . This area constitutes "Best and Most Versatile" (BMV) land, which is highly productive and a significant part of the local economy. The magnitude of this development is fundamentally at odds with the traditional
character of the rural landscape, replacing productive fields with a dominant and intrusive industrial presence that irreversibly alters the visual and physical nature of the area.
The removal of outstanding farmland poses a direct threat to national food security at a time when maintaining domestic agricultural production is paramount. This project threatens to permanently remove agricultural practice in turn destroying the local rural economies and communities that support it, severing the historical connection between the local community and the landscapes they manage.
Pollution from Solar Industrial Sites
Solar farm construction and operation can lead to various forms of pollution. Chemical runoff from cleaning agents used on solar panels can seep into local water sources, posing a threat to aquatic life and water quality. Additionally, the disposal of solar panels at the end of their lifecycle can result in hazardous waste, including heavy metals like cadmium and lead, which require careful management to prevent environmental contamination.
While solar farms are often touted for their renewable energy benefits, it's crucial to assess their carbon footprint. The manufacturing, transportation, and installation of solar panels contribute to greenhouse gas emissions.
